Course Modules

Module 1 - Installing and Configuring the Domino Network

Domino 7 has introduced two new methods for installing servers. These methods allow administrators to simplify the installation of servers, so junior administrative staff can handle the installations.
  • Create a response file
  • Install a server using the silent option and a response file
  • Understand the express installation option

Module 2 - Administering Notes Clients
One of the overriding goals of Domino 7 administration is to reduce the time and effort to upgrade and administer Notes clients. In Domino 7 it is even easier to use Smart Upgrade to upgrade the organization's Notes clients. Policies can now be used to control mail preferences and administrators can choose to lock down settings so the user experience can be tightly controlled. Policies can also be used to enforce custom password requirements and to set options in clients' notes.ini files and Location documents. Release 7 has introduced new, stronger user and server keys as well as the ability to have these keys rolled over automatically. Finally, the Autosave feature will help prevent Notes users from losing their work should their client or server crash.
  • Set mail preferences using the Mail Settings document
  • Lock down settings on the Mail and Desktop Settings documents
  • Use the Desktop Settings document to set notes.ini and Location document options
  • Create a custom password policy
  • Understand the enhancements to Smart Upgrade
  • Roll over user and server keys
  • Learn about the new Autosave feature

Module 3 - Mail and Calendar Administration
Domino 7 now supports private blacklists and whitelists to control SPAM. To improve efficiency, server-based mail rules can be configured to stop the processing of any remaining rules. Outbound Internet email can be stamped with message disclaimers that the user can not override. Administrators now have new options on Archive Settings documents for controlling the archiving of users' mail. Domino 7 now uses a new server task which is responsible for room and resource reservations. There is also a calendar cleanup feature to delete old calendar entries. Enhancements have been made to the Domino server's capabilities when dealing with external LDAP directories and when LDAP queries are made of the Domino Directory.
  • Configure blacklists and whitelists
  • Use the "Stop processing" action in mail rules
  • Set up mail disclaimers
  • Understand the new options available on the Archive Settings document
  • Understand the new options available for Domino Web Access users and administrators
  • Learn about the Rooms and Resources Manager task
  • Use the calendar cleanup feature to delete old calendar entries
  • Explore the LDAP enhancements

Module 4 - Server Monitoring
Domino 7 introduces Domino Domain Monitoring (DDM). DDM incorporates and extends the capabilities of event generators and handlers, but is easier to configure and produces reports that offer greater details and troubleshooting suggestions. Fault recovery and diagnostic collection have also been enhanced in Release 7. Administrators can now configure the server console messages to include additional information. Three new Event Handler actions have been added in Domino 7.
  • Configure and use the Domino Domain Monitoring tool
  • Use the Server Health Monitor
  • Understand the enhancements to the fault recovery and diagnostic collection features
  • Explore the new actions available in Event Handlers
  • Configure the new options for the display of server console messages
