Toolbar Enhancements

The Notes 6 toolbars replace SmartIcons from prior Notes releases. The toolbar icons provide the same menu-shorcut function as their SmartIcon predecessors. One new feature is multiple toolbar sets can be docked at the top, bottom, left or right side of the Notes 6 window. The following image shows three toolbar sets docked in two rows at the top of the Notes window. The start of a toolbar set can be identified by the toolbar mover control which is located at the left side of each toolbar set.

Below are the Notes 6 toolbar enhancements. These enhancements also apply to the Domino Designer and Administrator clients!

Hide or Display Toolbars using the Toolbar Popup Menu
Right click an existing toolbar to display its popup menu. The checkmarks in the popup menu indicate the toolbars that are currently displayed. This is a toggle setting. The absence of a checkmark indicates those toolbars that are currently hidden.

Choose a toolbar from the popup menu to toggle its hide or display setting.

Moving Toolbars
To move a toolbar, left click and hold its mover control and move the toolbar using a drag and drop action. A toolbar can be docked at the top, bottom, left or right side of the Notes window. You can dock up to two rows of toolbars on any side of the Notes window. You can even dock a toolbar in its own window outside of Notes.
This image shows a Notes window with one row of toolbars on each of its sides. Notice the mouse cursor and how the toolbar on the right side is currently being moved.

Selecting Options from the Drop-down Toolbar List
When the sides of a Notes window is not long enough to display all of the tools in its toolbar sets, the drop-down toolbar control is displayed at the end of the truncated toolbar. Click on this control to display the rest of the tools in a drop-down toolbar list.

This image shows a Notes window with three toolbars. Notice the drop-down toolbar control which indicates that each toolbar is truncated. Also notice the mouse cursor and how the drop-down list is displayed for the leftmost toolbar.

Procedure: Setting Toolbar Preferences

Follow these steps to set the toolbar preferences:

1.Open the Toolbar Preferences dialog using either of these procedures:
  • Choose File | Preferences | Toolbar Preferences... for the Notes menu
  • Or, right click an existing toolbar and choose Toolbar Preferences from its popup menu.
2.On the Basics tab, set the toolbar display and appearance options. These settings apply to all toolbars.

Click the [Restore All Defaults] button to restore the toolbars to their default settings.

Deselect the 'Show toolbars' option to hide all toolbars.

Select the 'Show Context Sensitive toolbar' option to automatically add toolbar sets to support your current task. For example, when a view is displayed in the current window, the Navigate View toolbar is automatically displayed; if you then switch to a window where you are editing a document, the Edit Document toolbar is displayed and the Navigate View toolbar is hidden.

Set the display, size and popup text settings in the 'Toolbar Appearance' section.

3.On the Toolbars tab, select the toolbars to always display regardless of the current task.

4.You can create a new toolbar set or customize an existing set using the button controls on the Customize tab.

5.Click the [OK] button to save the toolbar preferences.
