5. Wiki Article on Deploying the Extension Library

Domino 8.5.3 added a new way to deploy plug-ins like the XPages Extension Library via the Update Site application. This is a very easy way to deploy a plug-in on your servers. Just add one line to your notes.ini file on each server, import the Extension Library into the Update Site application (the 8.5.3 version is needed) and restart the HTTP task. The Extension Library gets loaded. Paul Hannan has written a wiki article on how to use this new feature.

6. NICE - A Nice Tool for Lotus Administrators

IBM has a tool called NICE which is used to completely remove all traces of a Notes install. This can be very useful in situations where you just can't seem to get Notes installed or upgraded. Andy Pedicich wrote a great blog entry on how to use NICE and where to find it.

7. New Purge Interval Replication Control Setting in 8.5.3

There is a new setting in 8.5.3 that will prevent previously deleted documents from replicating back into a database. This could happen when a computer with a local replica has not replicated for a while (the time depends on the Remove Documents Not Modified in the Last xx Days setting) and then that computer replicates with other replicas. The previously deleted documents will be replicated back into the database after their deletion stubs have been purged. The new Purge Interval Replication Control (PIRC) setting will prevent this from happening. There is an IBM Technote that explains this new setting.
