Learn how to use DB2 as the back-end Domino database store. This course is designed for someone who has no knowledge of DB2 and includes the basics of administering DB2 and DB2 security. You will learn how to install DB2, set configuration parameters for DB2 instances and databases and how to back up and recover DB2 databases. Next, learn how Domino works with DB2 and how to install and configure a Domino 8 server to store databases on a DB2 server. Finally, learn how to create new types of applications that integrate Domino with DB2 by using DB2 Access Views and Query Views and allow Domino applications access to other DB2 databases (federated data.) This course is a great foundation to start using DB2 with Domino 8.

Prerequisites:

Experienced Domino administrators and developers who want to learn how to use the new DB2 feature in Notes Domino 8.

System Requirements - All the software listed below is available at no charge from IBM with the exception of the DB2 Access Server (see below.)

Required before installing the course:

  • Notes 8 client, including Domino Administrator and Domino Designer
  • At least one computer on which the DB2 and Domino 8 test servers can be installed. The computer on which DB2 is installed must have XP Professional (XP Home Edition will not work), Windows 2000 or Windows 2003. NOTE: The Domino 8 server cannot be installed on Windows Vista. If running Windows Vista, the course includes instructions on how to create a virtual machine using VMware and the Windows 2003 trial software.
  • Access to the Internet for instructor support
Installed during the course:
  • DB2 Version 9.1 or DB2 Version 9.5 (available as a trial version)
  • Domino 8 server (available as a trial version)
  • DB2 Access Server (required to perform activities in Module 4; no trial available, you must have access to the software as an IBM customer or partner to get this.)
